John S. Wold
John Schiller Wold (August 31, 1916 – February 19, 2017) was Wyoming’s Oil, Gas, and Mineral Man of the 20th Century. During his 100 years of life, Wold spent 68 of them helping make Casper and Wyoming a better place. He was a husband, father, friend, oilman, entrepreneur, veteran, geologist, philanthropist, and politician. John Wold was a republican politician from Wyoming who served a term in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1971. He was the first professional geologist to have served in Congress and author of the “National Mining and Mineral Policy Act of 1970”.
John Wold played college hockey for Union College from 1935- 1936. Union College won the NCAA National Championship in
2014 and John Wold was named an honorary team member of this Frozen Four championship team. John Wold actively supported
the Casper Amateur Hockey Club for 30 years. John’s two sons, Peter Wold and Jack Wold, coached for the Casper Oilers. Five of John’s grandchildren played Casper Oiler hockey including: Matt Wold, Joe Wold, Court Wold, Abbie Long, and Holly Anderson. John longed for a higher level of hockey in Casper. The financial support from the Wolds has helped the Casper Oilers for many years.
